Remove the background from an image

Have artwork on a white or coloured background, or a PNG with a grey-and-white checkerboard that isn't really transparent? Idunframe removes it and gives you a clean transparent PNG. Free, in your browser.

How to remove a background

  1. Open Idunframe and stay in Studio.
  2. Choose One sticker for a single image (or Split a sheet if the image has several pieces), then Choose image.
  3. Idunframe finds the background colour and removes it. A fake checkerboard "transparent" background is recognised and removed too.
  4. Background left around the edges? Raise Background removal. Parts of the art missing? Lower it. Clear gaps inside the art also removes background showing through holes, like the inside of a letter O.
  5. Download a transparent PNG, or JPEG, WebP, PDF or SVG, at the size you need.

What it works best on

Good to know: Idunframe removes backgrounds by colour, so it's made for artwork. Photos with busy backgrounds, like a person in a room, aren't what it's built for.

Questions

Why does my PNG show a checkerboard instead of being transparent?

Some images have the grey-and-white checkerboard drawn into the picture, so it only looks transparent. Idunframe recognises the pattern and removes it, giving you a real transparent PNG.

Can I add a border or sticker edge after removing the background?

Yes. Pick an edge style such as white border, holo, clear or outline before you download.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The background is removed on your own device, so your images never leave it.
